Palm Beach Atlantic University concluded its three-day Hispanic Heritage Festival on Saturday, offering students and community members access to musical performances celebrating Hispanic cultures during Hispanic Heritage Month. WPTV reported that the annual festival, now in its 17th year, featured an art exhibition and musical performances highlighting Hispanic cultural contributions and artistic traditions.
Festival Director Michael O’Connor said this year marked the first time organizers expanded programming beyond art and classical music to include popular music from Hispanic cultures. O’Connor said the event continues to evolve each year and is expanding annually.
Organizers said the festival gives students and community members a chance to connect with artists and musicians while learning about the diversity of Hispanic cultures in a region with a large Hispanic population. The festival began Thursday with an art exhibition featuring artists representing more than 10 countries, including visual artist Franco Sotillo, who said sharing his work allows him to introduce audiences to Peruvian artistic expression.
The festival concluded Saturday with performances featuring both classical and popular Hispanic music. Organizers said they hope attendees gain greater appreciation for Hispanic artistic traditions and the people behind them.
