The Park Rapids Classic Chorale has appointed Samantha Carlson as its new director for the upcoming season, the Park Rapids Enterprise reported, citing a news release. Carlson brings more than three decades of experience in music education, choral conducting, and church music to the ensemble.
Carlson earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1992. She began her teaching career as a middle school choir director in San Marcos, Texas, and later obtained a master’s degree in music from Arizona State University with a focus on choral music. Carlson spent 27 years teaching in the Chandler Unified School District, working with elementary students, and retired in 2023.
Throughout her career, Carlson was active in church music ministry, directing adult, children’s, and handbell choirs, leading praise bands, and selecting music for weekly worship services. The Classic Chorale will hold its first rehearsal at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids. The group performs a variety of music, including classical, pop, and folk, and experienced singers are encouraged to attend the first rehearsal.
