Potsdam Central School’s music program is beginning a multiyear overhaul of its instrument inventory thanks to a major gift from local philanthropists Michael and Barbara Maresca, North Country Now reported. The first installment of instruments and equipment was delivered last week, addressing some of the program’s highest-priority needs.
Music Friends board members Heather Sullivan-Catlin and Ben Todd joined band and orchestra teachers Andrew Crecco, Matt Gayle, Jill Rubio and Jill Savage to receive the equipment. The Maresca family’s multiyear gift will allow the district to completely replace and update its instrument inventory and equipment over the next several years. The initial shipment included three Ampeg bass amps, four Yamaha 61-key keyboards, five Yamaha flutes, five Yamaha clarinets, one Yamaha baritone saxophone, one Yamaha tuba, two Yamaha bass clarinets, four Yamaha euphoniums, two Yamaha concert snare drum stands and one Yamaha vibraphone.
“The Music Friends organization is overwhelmed by the generosity of the Marescas and we look forward to shepherding their gifts through the coming years,” said Secretary-Treasurer Heather Sullivan-Catlin. “We are so grateful.”
