Universidad Austral de Chile reported that the Orchestra of the Toki Rapa Nui School of Music and Arts will present “Te Mana,” a performance fusing classical and Polynesian traditions, at the Cervantes Regional Theater in Valdivia on August 19. The event highlights the educational achievements of 21 students, ranging in age from eight years old, who perform alongside five experienced teachers from the island school.
The university noted that the ensemble was founded by Mahani Teave, a pianist and former student of the UACh Conservatory of Music. This presentation marks a stop on the group’s second national tour, which showcases how classroom instruction in music, dance, and cultural heritage translates to professional stage performance. The repertoire integrates specific Rapa Nui expressions such as Ori, Kai Kai, and Hoko to convey community strength and environmental stewardship.
According to the source, the school has provided musical education to children and youth for 14 years, serving as an emblematic project for the Toki NGO. The organization combines artistic training with initiatives focused on sustainability and cultural safeguarding. The current tour and orchestra operations receive partial funding from the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Heritage through its 2026 Fund for the Promotion of National Music, ensuring continued access to arts education for island students.
