Rockwood music teacher selected for NEA Foundation Global Learning Fellowship

Rachel Johnson, a music teacher at Rockwood’s Center for Creative Learning, has been selected as one of two Missouri educators for the 2026-27 National Education Association Foundation Global Learning Fellowship.

West Newsmagazine reported that Johnson will join a cohort of approximately 50 educators from across the country in a yearlong professional learning program focused on preparing students to become global citizens.

The fellowship includes coursework, webinars, professional development and collaborative learning opportunities before concluding with a 10-day field study in Peru next summer, according to the report.

Throughout the program, Johnson will work with other educators, NEA Foundation staff, partners and former fellows to explore ways to incorporate global perspectives into the classroom.

Johnson said the fellowship is an opportunity to deepen her passion for global education and share what she learns with students and educators throughout the Rockwood School District. She expressed gratitude to the district for its support since the announcement and said she looks forward to bringing new global competencies back to her students and sharing what she learns with fellow educators across the district.
