Roland Future Design Lab is using its V-STAGE keyboard as a test case for more accessible product instruction, with input from blind musician, producer and accessibility consultant Jason Dasent. The new materials combine digital text that works with screen readers, narrated guides and described video, while the keyboard’s physical layout gives players a consistent point of reference. Dasent helped shape materials for its instrument engines, effects controls and connections.
The work is designed to let visually impaired players study the instrument on their own terms and develop reliable performance habits. Roland and Dasent say they will seek responses from musician communities using the materials before deciding whether comparable accessibility projects should extend to other instruments. The V-STAGE release is a pilot, not an assertion that the broader catalogue already offers equivalent documentation.
