The Rustin High School Golden Knights marching band in West Chester, Pennsylvania, is preparing a new competition performance that merges classical compositions with contemporary pop hits. 6abc Philadelphia reported that students unveiled the mashup during a rehearsal on their home field ahead of the upcoming contest season.
Senior trombone player Sofia Hymel told the station that the ensemble’s setlist covers diverse genres, ranging from Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” to Taylor Swift songs like “Wildest Dreams” and “Love Story.” Senior color guard member Calista Rafferty expressed enthusiasm for the programming, noting she had requested a Taylor Swift-themed show throughout her four years in the program.
Band Director Michael Shoremount, who has led the group for 21 years, emphasized the ensemble’s role in fostering school spirit and community tradition at Friday night football games. The Golden Knights are scheduled to host their first competition of the season next weekend. The event, titled “A Night in Motion,” will feature ten bands performing on the school’s home field.
