The Salem Community High School band launched its marching season by claiming the grand champion title at the Robinson Moving Maroon Festival. According to a report by southernillinoisnow.com, the ensemble also secured first place in its class while earning specific awards for best percussion, best auxiliary and best drum major.
Band Director John Randolph characterized the performance as a pretty good start for the 45-member group. The students presented a show titled “Reign,” which features an Egyptian theme. The publication noted that the instructional team supporting these students includes Assistant Director Andrew Styninger, Color Guard Instructor Rebecca Hays and Zoey Neiple, who worked with the front ensemble during the summer.
Following this initial success, the school band is scheduled to compete next at the SIU-C band show. The ensemble will subsequently perform at the Little Egypt Festival the following week. These upcoming events provide continued performance opportunities for the students and staff as they progress through their competitive season.
