Seoul’s only official music-themed cultural zone in the Seocho District will host the eighth annual Seoripul Musical Instrument Street Festival this weekend, The Korea Times reported. Running alongside the Seoripul Music Festival, the event brings together local instrument shops, artists, students and residents.
Visitors can see, hear and play a wide range of instruments displayed by retailers Cosmos Musical Instruments and Europe Musical Instruments. The selection includes classical models, traditional Korean instruments and folk varieties from around the world. Musicians from South America and Africa will also introduce and perform on traditional instruments from their home regions.
A street workshop will guide participants through the violin-making process, requiring on-site registration. The performance lineup features a South American and African music duo, a traditional Korean percussion and lion dance by the Yeonhui Company, and sets by the student Seodong Band from Seoul High School and Dongduk Girls’ High School. On Sunday, the Sinjung Elementary School Children’s Orchestra will perform tunes including “Arirang Rhapsody” and music from “The Avengers.”
Seocho District Mayor Jun Sung-soo said the festival was built together by local shops, artists, students and residents. He expressed hope that the event gives everyone, regardless of age, a chance to discover rare instruments, connect through music and enjoy themselves.
