The Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s (DSO) Paradise Jazz Series will continue with a one-night-only concert featuring SFJAZZ Collective performing a musical celebration of Miles Davis.

The Collective is an all-star ensemble well-known for their jazz explorations of music by Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Horace Silver, and others, and now their focus turns to the legendary Miles Davis.

“More than any other figure, Davis changed the sound of jazz—not once, but consistently over his career,” the Collective says in a statement.

The concert takes place Friday, April 20 at 8 p.m. in Orchestra Hall, within Midtown Detroit’s Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center. A combo of Civic Jazz Orchestra (CJO) members, one of the DSO’s Civic Youth Ensembles, will kick off the evening with a pre-concert performance free to all Paradise Jazz Series ticketholders.

Afterwards, Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition winner Quiana Lynell will headline “The Hang,” a post-concert performance to keep the party going. “The Hang” starts at 10 p.m. in the Peter D. and Julie F. Cummings Cube, across the William Davidson Atrium from Orchestra Hall.

The Paradise Jazz Series is made possible with support from MGM Grand Detroit.
