Shanghai Conservatory Celebrates 10 Years of Organ Program

The organ program at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music marked a decade of existence with a special concert held at the conservatory’s orchestral rehearsal hall. According to a report from the conservatory, the event showcased a variety of musical collaborations.

The concert featured a diverse range of instruments, including the organ alongside the erhu, sheng, zhongruan, viola, violin, piano, and traditional Chinese vocals. The program included ten pieces, with two organ solos, six instrumental concertos, and two collaborative works featuring traditional Chinese singers.

Over the past ten years, the Shanghai Conservatory’s organ program has seen notable achievements, including the approval of its “Organ Solo” course as a key reform project within the conservatory’s undergraduate curriculum. Students have also consistently excelled in international competitions, participating in more than twenty events across Asia, Europe, and North America, with over thirty students earning recognition. The conservatory has also fostered international partnerships with institutions such as the Juilliard School, Eastman School of Music, and Leipzig Conservatory.
