The Shanghai Conservatory of Music recently hosted a national seminar focused on developing curriculum standards for “Music Artificial Intelligence Application” at its Opera House. According to the Conservatory, the event brought together experts from various arts institutions, healthcare organizations, and industry representatives, alongside Conservatory officials.
Professor Qin Shile, vice director of the Shanghai Conservatory’s Music Engineering Department, presided over the discussions, which centered on defining the curriculum’s scope, practical teaching methods, and industry collaboration. The seminar culminated in the release of a joint initiative for the development of “Music Artificial Intelligence Application” curriculum standards.
Vice President Feng Lei emphasized the need for consensus regarding curriculum frameworks, learning objectives, content, assessment, and educational orientation, noting that music artificial intelligence education is already being piloted across numerous universities. He underscored the importance of maintaining the core values of music education while integrating industry partnerships to support a digital transformation of music education.
Professor Yang Ruwen, head of the Conservatory’s Academic Affairs Office, presented an overview of the “Music Artificial Intelligence Application” curriculum, which has evolved from a specialized course to a general education offering for all students. The Conservatory intends to implement a tiered structure, combining general education courses with specialized courses from different departments, and will establish a dynamic update mechanism alongside the development of curriculum “meta standards.”
