Swainsboro High School alumnus Jayson Brown recently traveled to Washington, D.C., to advocate for music education while representing Georgia Southern University at the National Association for Music Education’s Collegiate Leadership Advocacy Summit and Hill Day. Emanuel County Live reported that Brown, currently pursuing a degree in music education, joined educators and students from across the country for the annual event focused on leadership development and professional networking.

During the summit, which coincided with the NAfME National Assembly, Brown accepted the Chapter of Excellence Award in Recruitment on behalf of his university’s collegiate chapter. The event provided opportunities for participants to engage with experienced teachers and observe the organization’s national executive board. The gathering concluded with Hill Day, where Brown and fellow advocates met with congressional representatives and staff to discuss the necessity of continued federal support for school music programs.

According to the report, this experience allowed Brown to merge his training as a future educator with active advocacy for the profession. The source noted that his journey from the Swainsboro High School music program to national advocacy efforts serves as a point of pride for the local school community, illustrating how graduates continue to lead and make positive impacts beyond their hometown.
