Springwood High School hosted an immersive musical day when the 77-member National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain visited for performances and workshops, the Lynn News reported. The orchestra, comprising musicians aged 14 to 19, delivered two full concerts and conducted classroom pop-ups for students ranging from Year 8 to A-Level.
Robin Norman, the school’s director of music, stated that the event functioned as a complete music takeover involving the entire student body. Twenty-seven members of the school Concert Band participated in a side-by-side rehearsal with the professionals, performing music from How to Train Your Dragon under the baton of the orchestra’s conductor. Additionally, nine students joined a creative workshop while other ensemble members roamed the campus and visited nearby Gaywood Primary School.
Norman described the audience as spellbound during the main performances, noting that many students had never previously seen a harp or heard a full orchestra. He emphasized that the experience left a lasting impression on attendees, with one Year 9 student calling it the best day ever. Springwood was the first school visited on the orchestra’s annual tour and one of only four selected in Norfolk and Suffolk for this honor.
