TEAM project releases new music teacher learning outcomes

The European Music School Union reported the publication of the TEAM Learning Outcomes, a forward-looking reference document supporting high-quality classroom music teaching in primary and secondary schools. This framework presents 25 descriptors, consisting of 20 core and five transversal elements that are mutually interlinked. According to the project documentation, combining these descriptors helps highlight potential activities for music teachers, a concept illustrated by an associated online dynamic tool.

Key design principles include phrasing as short imperatives in the second person, blending musical and pedagogical competences, and omitting European Qualification Framework levels to ensure compatibility with local references. The document utilizes a single set for both generalists and specialists.

These outcomes emerged from the Teacher Education Academy for Music (TEAM), a pan-European collaborative research network operating from 2023 to 2026. Building on previous sets from 2009 and 2013, the development involved a data-driven, multi-stakeholder process including scoping reviews of future-oriented trends and feedback from consortium partners. The project aims to reshape music teacher education to address needs regarding digitization, intercultural learning, and social coherence. The results are available in a concise poster booklet, while further details on the design process will appear in an upcoming open-access book volume.
