The European Music School Union reported the publication of the TEAM learning outcomes, a forward-looking reference document designed to support high-quality classroom music teaching in primary and secondary schools. This resource is available as a concise poster booklet presenting 25 descriptors alongside background information and formulation principles.
The framework comprises 20 core descriptors and five transversal descriptors that are mutually interlinked. Each transversal descriptor should be considered in relation to all core descriptors. Combining both types helps highlight potential music teachers’ activities, as illustrated in an online dynamic tool. Key design principles include using short imperatives in the second person, integrating musical and pedagogical competences, and applying a single set for both generalists and specialists. The document omits European Qualification Framework levels to ensure compatibility with local reference frameworks.
Building on existing meNet (2009) and EAS (2013) sets, these outcomes emerged from a data-driven, multi-stakeholder process. This included a scoping review of future-oriented trends and feedback rounds involving consortium partners and EAS Special Focus Groups. The Teacher Education Academy for Music, Future-Making, Mobility and Networking in Europe (TEAM) is a pan-European network operating from 2023 to 2026. It aims to reshape initial and ongoing music teacher education according to needs regarding professionalization, digitization, intercultural learning, and social coherence.
