Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute is launching the second year of The B-Side, a program that introduces career pathways in the music industry. Beginning in February, nearly 70 young people from across New York City will participate in workshops at Carnegie Hall as part of The B-Side.
The program is designed for future music industry leaders and helps young people learn about the music business by connecting them with music executives, accomplished writers, producers, engineers, performing artists, and more. Industry leaders from Universal Music, Primary Wave, SummerStage, Thirty Tigers, Roc Nation, and others will join as guest speakers.
A new intermediate level kicks off in April for alums of The B-Side who will focus on one of three tracks: music technology; rights, royalties, and revenue; and marketing. Workshops are led by Carnegie Hall staff and guest faculty from industry leaders.
“The B-Side has given me direction not just in terms of being a musician, but it’s given me a sense of optimism applicable to everyday skills,” said Dimitri, an alum of The B-Side.
Public support for The B-Side is provided by the Speaker of the New York City Council. Additional support comes from The Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation.
The program will also include field trips and attendance at Carnegie Hall concerts, panel discussions, and more. Participants in both groups will engage in biweekly workshops at Carnegie Hall in addition to attending these events.
