The Fairfax Symphony Orchestra (FSO) 2017-2018 Season will open with the world premiere of a new work by George Mason University faculty composer, Mark Camphouse, on September 16 at the George Mason University Center for the Arts.

The piece, named “Resolutions,” will honor the FSO’s 60th Anniversary and commemorate the 275th Anniversary of Fairfax County. Sharon Bulova, Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, commissioned the piece.

“I can’t wait to hear the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra perform this exciting, original musical legacy in honor of Fairfax County’s 275th Anniversary,” said Bulova.

“We are delighted to open our season with the world premiere of Professor Camphouse’s new work in honor of the FSO’s 60 years and in celebration of our great county’s 275th anniversary,” said Jonathan Kerr, executive director of the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra. “We owe immense gratitude to Chairman Bulova for her outstanding leadership and ongoing commitment to the arts in Fairfax County.”

Conductor Christopher Zimmerman will lead the FSO, and the show will also include a performance of Elgar’s “Cello Concerto” by Israeli cellist Amit Peled.

“It is an honor to be the recipient of this commission to create a new work celebrating the 60th anniversary season of the FSO, one of America’s finest regional symphony orchestras under the inspired direction of Maestro Chris Zimmerman. And it is a joy to play a role in helping to commemorate the 275th anniversary of Fairfax County’s rich history, phenomenal growth and notable achievements and, most importantly, its vibrant and exciting future,” said Mark Camphouse, Professor of Music, George Mason University.
