Premiumtimesng.com reported that thirty-nine scholars have graduated from the MUSON School of Music Diploma Programme, marking two decades of partnership between the MTN Foundation and the Musical Society of Nigeria to expand access to music education. The 19th cohort completed a fully funded two-year conservatory-level curriculum covering performance, theory, and ensemble practice.
According to the report, the graduation ceremony held July 7-8 at the MUSON Centre in Lagos featured performances by the graduating class and the MUSON School Orchestra. Students specialized in instruments including piano, violin, cello, flute, saxophone, voice, and percussion while gaining practical experience through choirs, orchestras, and concert bands. Since 2006, the foundation has covered tuition, learning materials, and transportation for admitted students, with more than 550 scholars completing the programme through this collaboration.
MUSON Acting Director Emeka Nwokedi stated that the partnership removes financial barriers, allowing talented youth to focus on skill development and professional preparation. The source noted that alumni have pursued successful careers and further studies domestically and internationally. During the event, three graduates received awards for exemplifying core values, and the board announced the appointment of Princess Banke Ademola as Director Emeritus upon her retirement.
