Three Lexington-Richland School District Five students have been selected for the 2026-27 South Carolina Elementary Honor Choir, a statewide ensemble recognizing outstanding young vocalists in grades four through six.
lexingtonchronicle.com reported that Xavier Owens, EL Son Soe and Diana Soe, all students at Seven Oaks Elementary Global Magnet School, earned their spots through a selective audition process. The South Carolina Music Educators Association sponsors the ensemble, with music educators nominating students and submitting recorded auditions. Each participating school may submit up to six students for consideration.
Selected students will work with nationally recognized guest conductors, collaborative pianists and music educators as they prepare for a performance during the SCMEA Professional Development Conference, scheduled for Feb. 5-6 in Columbia. Elizabeth Nunez, an Emmy Award-winning creative director of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, will serve as clinician for the 2026-27 choir. Nunez leads programs serving more than 2,000 young singers annually and has conducted ensembles at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the Apollo Theater, according to lexingtonchronicle.com.
School District Five Coordinator for Visual and Performing Arts Roger Simpson said the students’ selection reflects their musical talent, dedication and hard work, and the district is excited to see them grow as musicians while learning from an exceptional clinician.
