Billboard has ranked Toronto Metropolitan University’s professional music program among the world’s top music business schools for the second consecutive year, according to The Eyeopener. Billboard recognized the program for its commitment to exploring emerging trends and diverse music markets.
The Eyeopener reported that Billboard highlighted courses in music business, production, entrepreneurship, marketing, management and live events. Faculty member Charlie Wall-Andrews was praised for incorporating artificial intelligence into courses with ethics in mind. Wall-Andrews told The Eyeopener she shaped the curriculum drawing on her music industry experience and collaborating with professionals.
Wall-Andrews said work-integrated learning, including internships through courses, is the key component leading to student success. She said the curriculum is shaped by student feedback and industry input. Billboard also recognized a course developed with Billboard Canada examining Punjabi artist Diljit Dosanjh’s career, which Wall-Andrews compared to international courses on Taylor Swift and Beyoncé.
Second-year student Adrian De Souza described the program as community-oriented, saying professors encourage students to use tools and resources beyond coursework. Student Gabriel Ruddick said access to recording studios and professional equipment has been a highlight. He originally intended to pursue music education but discovered interest in working in the music industry instead.
Billboard Canada reported it will continue its partnership with TMU through a new course in winter 2027.
