Music Education New Zealand Aotearoa (MENZA) and the Canterbury Arts Teachers Association (CATA) will host the Toi Ihiihi Taonga Pūoro Workshop in Ōtautahi, Christchurch, on Oct. 2.
The workshop will explore Āo Pūoro me ngā Toi Māori, Māori music and arts, through taonga pūoro. The program includes taonga pūoro making with pounamu (greenstone) and whakairo (wood carving), with whakapapa and pūrākau (narratives). Jon Jeet is listed as a program contributor.
The organizers describe the session as an opportunity to participate in and build resources around taonga pūoro making. The program is presented by MENZA and the Canterbury Arts Teachers Association.
The workshop will take place at Climate Action Campus, 180 Avonside Drive, Avonside, Christchurch. It is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 2, begins with a mihi whakatau and has a $50 fee.
