Shaw Local reported that the Traughber Junior High School Wind Ensemble has been invited to perform at the Music for All National Festival in Indianapolis from April 1-3. This selection marks the first time a junior high school from Oswego Community Unit School Dist. 308 has received an invitation to the event.
The ensemble includes 50 seventh- and eighth-grade students led by band teachers Rachel Maxwell and Devin Cano. It is the only Illinois middle school concert band participating. The group will be among 14 middle school concert bands at the festival, which features 65 high school and middle school ensembles from 16 states.
In a news release, Maxwell described the students as dedicated musicians who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to their music education. She said she hopes the experience teaches them the value of hard work beyond a single performance. Maxwell noted the achievement involves collaboration, responsibility, perseverance and building confidence.
