Trombone Shorty Foundation sets fall schedule for music Business Institute

The Trombone Shorty Foundation has unveiled the fall schedule for its Fredman Music Business Institute, offering free professional development programs for young people in New Orleans. Myneworleans.com reported that the institute is hosting multiple sessions this season to promote growth within the music industry. While the foundation’s overview mentions participants aged 14 to 20, specific course descriptions list eligibility for youth between ages 14 and 29.

The curriculum includes Bandleader Bootcamp, led by musicians Hannah Kreiger-Benson and Danovan Calhoun-Bettis, which provides practical tools for navigating the demands of leading a band. Additional courses cover an introduction to the music industry, branding and marketing strategies, tax preparation guidance from a CPA, and fundamentals of Ableton Live software. These workshops aim to help participants understand facets of the business, whether their goal is performing, engineering or managing.

All sessions are free to attend, but advance registration is required. Classes will be held at the New Orleans Career Center on Kerlerec Street and the George and Joyce Wein Jazz and Heritage Center on North Rampart Street. The foundation created these pathways to assist those interested in various roles behind the microphone, the recording console or within record labels. Interested individuals can visit the foundation’s website to register or view specific program dates.
