Troy University reported that its fight song, “Trojans, One and All,” was selected as the 2026 Best Fight Song in the USA TODAY Sports Readers’ Choice Award. The announcement placed the composition ahead of ten other finalists, including entries from Michigan State and Ohio State, following an online public vote that concluded Aug. 17. A panel of editors initially curated the list of 20 nominees from across the country.
The piece was composed in 1983 by the late Dr. John M. Long, a legendary former director of the Sound of the South Marching Band, according to Dr. Mark Walker, the current Director of Bands at Troy University. Walker noted that the song became the institution’s official fight song during the 1999-2000 academic year. Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr. stated that hearing the ensemble perform the work signals success on the field of play and represents one of the university’s most treasured traditions. Kyle George, Director of Athletics, added that the recognition reflects the pride and passion surrounding Troy University and its athletic programs. George noted that student-athletes, coaches and fans have put the university on a national stage through historic postseason runs and remarkable accomplishments.
