Twin Falls High School’s band, choir and orchestra will join forces Wednesday for their fourth annual Veterans Day performance, treating the community to American folk tune medleys and patriotic songs, Idaho News 6 reported.
The combined concert at Roeper Auditorium begins at 7 p.m., with free admission for veterans. Student musicians rehearsed together ahead of the event, including a combined performance of “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”
Viola player Sage Tubbs said she enjoys hearing all the parts interact, noting the music sounds more complete when band, choir and orchestra perform together. Cellist Isabella Heaps described the collaboration as a lesson in teamwork, explaining that musicians must work together to produce the best collective sound.
Orchestra Director John Mark Shipley said the goal of the performance is rooted in gratitude, aiming to respect and honor veterans in the community through music. Choir Director Daniel Child said music offers a way to connect emotions that are often difficult to express, and he hopes the concert can share a healing power with veterans who attend.
For some students, the music program has become central to their lives. Aidan Lancaster said orchestra started as a way to be with his brother but has grown into a significant part of his daily routine.
