Two 17-year-olds were taken into custody around 10 a.m. Tuesday in connection with an incident involving students at I.C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth, Virginia, according to the Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office. WTKR reported that authorities have not disclosed the juveniles’ identities or specific charges due to the ongoing investigation.
Portsmouth Public Schools spokesperson Lauren Nolasco told WTKR there has been no change in the status of the school’s band program. Nolasco said the school took immediate and appropriate action for the students involved and the band program continued its normal operating schedule.
WTKR previously reported on Oct. 12 that the school division had taken disciplinary action following an investigation into an incident involving the school’s band. According to the school division, the incident occurred after school following the cancellation of a scheduled band practice.
School administrators said they completed an investigation that included contacting law enforcement and child protective services. The school also held a mandatory meeting with band parents to discuss behavioral expectations and new protocols for student pickup. The nature of the original incident has not been publicly detailed by school officials.
