Approximately 250 University of Arizona students comprise the Pride of Arizona marching band this academic year, representing more than 100 different majors ranging from engineering and nursing to business, KGUN 9 reported. Head Drum Major Angela Cazares described the ensemble as one of the most diverse groups on campus.
Cazares, a senior studying Leadership and Learning Innovation, initially planned to end her marching band experience after high school but now considers staying with the group the best decision she has made. She noted that music brings people together in unique ways, creating connections visible both on the field and at games.
Paige Epp, a senior studying Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences and captain of the Twirling Team, joined the Pride with a background in baton twirling but no prior marching band experience. Epp described learning the mechanics of the band as a new language but said the welcoming environment has led to lifelong friendships among instrumentalists, color guard members and twirlers.
The Pride is concluding band camp on August 21. The week ends with a Pre-game and The Music of RAYE Band Camp Performance scheduled for 9 p.m. at Bear Down Field, located at 1440 E. 4th St., KGUN 9 reported.
