Grand Forks Herald reports that the University of North Dakota will conduct its summer commencement on Friday, Aug. 7, beginning at 2 p.m. in the Chester Fritz Performing Arts Center. The ceremony will be livestreamed on UND’s website and Facebook page, and doors will open an hour early with free parking available in the lot south of the building.
The university’s faculty and staff newsletter indicates that 584 students are eligible to graduate this summer across professional, graduate and undergraduate programs. President Andrew Armacost will preside over the event and confer the degrees, while Dan Lewerenz, an associate professor of law, will deliver the commencement speech.
Lewerenz, a member of the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska and chief judge of his tribe’s appellate court, joined UND in 2022 after a career in journalism and law that included work for the Native American Rights Fund and the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of the Solicitor. Prior to his legal work, he spent a decade as a reporter and editor for the Associated Press.
