The Grove Studios Academy has partnered with the University of Canberra to launch a Bachelor of Creative Industries (Contemporary Music Practice), giving students a pathway from the recording studio to a university degree. The Music Network reported the information.
The degree will be taught at The Grove Studios’ Central Coast campus and covers music production, music technology, songwriting, live sound and performance, alongside the broader UC qualification. It will be offered from Semester One 2027.
The Grove Studios Academy CEO Scott Horscroft said the partnership builds a genuine pathway for students in the region to move from the classroom into the industry, developing creative and entrepreneurial skills while learning in a professional studio facility. He said the collaboration will change what is possible for musicians and producers across the Central Coast, Hunter, Sydney and Greater NSW region.
UC Faculty of Arts and Design executive dean Professor Julian Knowles said combining studio experience with higher education equips students for roles across the wider creative arts industries. UC vice-chancellor Professor the Honourable Bill Shorten said the partnership reflects the university’s ambition to prepare students for the workforce and that recognizing prior learning for those with VET qualifications makes it easier, faster and more affordable to gain a UC qualification.
An open day is scheduled for Saturday, November 14.
