The Department of Music within the School of Performing Arts at the University of Ghana will host a three-day international conference focused on comparative musicology in the 21st century. According to a report published by ug.edu.gh, the event is scheduled to take place from Sept. 15 to 17, 2026, at the department’s Legon campus. The gathering aims to bring together researchers, students, musicians, arts practitioners and the general public.
The university stated that the conference is organized in collaboration with the Collaborative Research Center Transformations of the Popular, specifically through its Low Pop subproject at the University of Siegen in Germany. Funding for the initiative is provided by the German Research Foundation. The opening ceremony will be chaired by Prof. Sylvanus Kwashie Kuwor, the acting dean of the School of Performing Arts. Prof. Sylvia Bruinders from the University of Cape Town will deliver the keynote address, while Prof. Dr. Florian Heesch from the University of Siegen is listed as a featured speaker.
