The Universidad Nacional de Rosario reported the launch of Grela85, a retrospective series celebrating the 85th birthday of renowned composer, teacher, and researcher Dante Grela. This initiative highlights his extensive artistic and academic career through concerts, lectures, and talks open to the public both in person and online across various city venues.
The celebration culminates on September 27 at the La Comedia Municipal Theater with the world premiere of “The Night,” a work for chorus and orchestra composed by Grela. The performance features two key university ensembles: the Polyphonic Choir of the Universidad Nacional de Rosario and the UNR Youth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Marcelo Pozo. Admission is free until capacity is reached.
Activities take place at the University Cultural Space, the municipal theater, and the School of Music within the Faculty of Humanities and Arts. Grela has maintained a sixty-one-year connection with this school, where he currently serves as a professor of acoustics, organology, and electroacoustic music. His catalog includes 137 works spanning symphonic, chamber, choral, and electroacoustic genres. The university notes that this event links artistic creation, student training, and institutional life while introducing Grela’s legacy to new audiences.
