Verona QuartetThe Verona Quartet, Juilliard’s graduate resident quartet, will make its Alice Tully Hall recital debut on the 23rd annual Lisa Arnhold Memorial Recital, Saturday, May 7, 2016, at 7:30pm.

The program features Haydn’s String Quartet B-flat Major, Op. 50, No. 1; Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in E Minor, Op. 44, No. 2; and Bartók’s String Quartet No. 5. Members of the Verona Quartet are violinists Jonathan Ong and Dorothy Ro; violist Abigail Rojansky; and cellist Warren Hagerty. The Quartet has won numerous accolades and awards and is quickly establishing themselves as one of the most exciting young string quartets on the music scene today. They will be making their Carnegie Hall debut in February 2017.

Tickets for $20 are available at events.juilliard.edu. Tickets are free for Juilliard students; non-Juilliard students may purchase tickets for $10, only at the Alice Tully Hall Box Office.

About the Verona Quartet

Hailed by critics as “thoughtful, impressive musicians” (Cleveland Classical), the Verona Quartet, formed in 2013, are winners of the 2015 Victor Elmaleh Concert Artists Guild Competition. Until 2015, the quartet was in residence at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and is currently the graduate resident string quartet at The Juilliard School. They have been top prizewinners at competitions in the USA and around the world including First Prize and Audience Prize at the Chesapeake International Chamber Music Competition, Alice Coleman Grand Prize at the Coleman Chamber Music Competition, Silver Medal and ProQuartet-CEMC Prize at the 2015 Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition, Bronze Medal at the 7th Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition, Silver Medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, First Prize in the Kuttner String Quartet Competition and Bronze Medal at the 8th

Osaka International Chamber Music Competition.

The Verona Quartet’s work as both performers and strong proponents of music education and outreach has taken them to Europe, the UK, Asia, the Middle East and across North America where they have been featured at esteemed venues including the Kennedy Center, Wigmore Hall, the Beethoven-Haus, the Melbourne Recital Centre and on both NPR and PBS. Upcoming projects include concerts at Alice Tully Hall, the La Jolla SummerFest, teaching and performances at the Indiana University String Academy and their Carnegie Hall debut in February of 2017. The Verona Quartet play instruments generously loaned through the Juilliard School Rare Instrument Collection.

About the Lisa Arnhold Memorial Recital

The May 7 event marks the 23rd annual Lisa Arnhold Memorial Recital, which is presented through the generosity of the Arnhold family. The members of each resident quartet, named Lisa Arnhold Fellows, receive a stipend, as well as regular ensemble coachings with the Juilliard String Quartet; they, in turn, coach other Juilliard student ensembles. The annual residency may be extended through a second season upon completion of the second year; the quartet graduates from Juilliard, receiving the Artist Diploma in String Quartet Studies. Previous graduate resident quartets have included the Afiara, Attacca, Avalon, Biava, Calder, Cassatt, Chiara, Colorado, Corigliano, Essex, Lark, Maia, Magellan, Miró, Shanghai, and St. Lawrence string quartets.
