Student musicians from the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music recently represented Vietnam at the Fourth World Youth Orchestra Festival in Moscow, marking the nation’s first participation in the large-scale event. Vietnam.vn reported that the ensemble, comprised almost entirely of conservatory students and young artists, performed at Zaryadye Park to enthusiastic acclaim from international audiences.
According to Vietnam.vn, the 26-member youth chamber orchestra was led by People’s Artist Do Quoc Hung and conducted by Nguyen Phu Son. The program blended European classics by composers such as Vivaldi and Mozart with Vietnamese works, including folk song arrangements gifted to the audience. Soloists featured student performers on violin, piano, and harp, alongside a soprano who sang in both Russian and Vietnamese.
Vietnam.vn cited People’s Artist Do Quoc Hung stating that the reception was emotionally explosive, with thousands of attendees rushing the stage for a final standing ovation. The source noted that the group, invited by initiator and artistic director Yuri Bashmet, continued their tour to Sochi on Aug. 24 before returning to Vietnam. The festival took place from Aug. 21 to 23 under the patronage of the Moscow City Hall and the Moscow Department of Culture.
