Violinist and MacArthur “Genius” Regina Carter and jazz drummer Sean Dobbins will visit a classroom of third grade violin students at a DPSCD school on Detroit’s east side today, October 16.
The students comprise the Vera and Joseph Dresner Foundation Allegro Ensemble, an in-school violin training program inaugurated in partnership with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO).
Students receive training from music teachers and DSO training ensemble instructors during the school day. Thanks to the Vera and Joseph Dresner Foundation’s support, their violins are provided at no cost and they are able to continue their studies with the DSO’s Civic Youth Ensembles tuition-free.
Carter and Dobbins, both Detroit natives, will visit the students and talk about music-making.
