Webinar guides music teachers through Chromebook-friendly classroom apps

A free webinar replay from Midnight Music walks music educators through browser-based apps that students can use on school Chromebooks for recording, notation, composition and creative exploration.

Midnight Music reported that the session covers tools including Soundtrap for Education and BandLab for Education for recording and composing, Noteflight Learn for notation, and Chrome Music Lab for creative activities such as Song Maker, Rhythm and Kandinsky.

The presentation demonstrates what each tool could look like in a music classroom, allowing teachers to select options that suit their students. It also shares tips for connecting microphones or MIDI keyboards to Chromebooks, including troubleshooting when a website fails to detect a device.

According to Midnight Music, desktop programs such as GarageBand, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Pro Tools and Audacity do not work on Chromebooks in typical school setups, so the webinar highlights browser-based alternatives for those music-making tasks.

Midnight Music advises educators to verify which websites students can access and whether devices permit microphone or MIDI connections before planning lessons. Teachers can earn a professional development certificate by completing a short form, and downloadable slides are available as a reference.

The resource is aimed at teachers of all technology skill levels and encourages selecting one or two tools that fit current curriculum needs rather than attempting to adopt everything at once.
