A purple metal bench honoring former Early High School band director Travis Bryant was installed near the concession stand at Longhorn Stadium this school year, Brownwood News reported.
Howard Payne University Director of Career Services Dr. Daniel Vera contacted TSTC Brownwood Senior Admissions Advisor Jim Espinoza with the idea for the project, according to Brownwood News. TSTC Brownwood welding instructor Salvador Marquez designed the bench, and welding students Caleb Cook and Levi Cuellar completed it.
Brownwood News reported that Ratliff Steel donated the steel, while M&F Gauge Specialty Company and JW Johnson provided paint and powder coating. The bench back features musical notes surrounding the words honoring Thomas Bryant and the phrase about music speaking where words fail.
Marquez told Brownwood News that he and students discussed the project at the welding shop and found a suitable design online. Espinoza said the project tied into the welding program’s technical calculations and blueprints curriculum, giving Cook and Cuellar practical experience in their final semester before earning certificates.
Cuellar, a Brownwood High School graduate, told Brownwood News he enjoyed the project and praised the powder coating finish. Cook attended high school in Chillicothe, Brownwood News reported.
