West Carroll Elementary band student earns first SOAR award of year

West Carroll Elementary School launched its 2026-27 SOAR Awards program by recognizing three students for exemplifying core values of safety, ownership, achievement and respect, mckenziebanner.com reported. Among the honorees was Macie Bennett, whose selection highlights the intersection of character education and classroom music participation.

Brayden Campbell, the West Carroll Jr. High band director, told the outlet that Bennett has demonstrated kindness and respect while showing early signs of success as a musician despite her short time in the ensemble. Campbell noted that he and colleague Ms. O’Bryan anticipate significant growth for Bennett within the music program. The awards also recognized Everlee Kopiar for her helpful nature and engagement in third-grade class discussions, according to teacher Jennifer Kemp. Guidance teacher Sherry Cockrill praised Harper Tidwell for successfully adjusting to the school while assisting classmates with their own transitions. This recognition system serves to reinforce positive behavioral expectations across academic subjects and extracurricular activities like band. By highlighting specific student contributions in music and general classrooms, educators aim to foster a supportive school community where artistic development and personal character are equally valued.
