WESTFIELD Marching band returns to downtown for Shako Day fundraiser

WESTFIELD Marching band returns to downtown for Shako Day fundraiser

The Westfield High School Marching Band will return to downtown Westfield for one of its biggest annual fundraisers, Shako Day, on Friday, Sept. 18, and Saturday, Sept. 19, Patch reported. Students will station themselves throughout the downtown area during specific hours to collect donations directly from community members. On Friday, students will be present from 5 to 7 p.m., returning Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

According to Patch, participants will utilize their shako hats as collection points, fostering direct interaction between the student musicians and the residents who support them. The event helps provide students with opportunities, resources and experiences connected to the marching band season. Event information indicates that every contribution goes directly toward supporting the high school ensemble.

Patch noted that for community members unable to visit downtown during the scheduled times, the band offers an alternative method to support the program through online donations via Venmo at @whsnjbpa. The hats are described as a familiar symbol of the band’s tradition and spirit, intended to bring students face to face with the community.
