Whistler Chamber music Society opens 2026-27 Concert Series with Eagle Peak Trio

The Whistler Chamber Music Society opens its 2026-27 Concert Series on Oct. 25 at 5 p.m. in the Maury Young Arts Centre, featuring the Eagle Peak Trio. Pique Newsmagazine reported the information about the upcoming performance.

The trio consists of violinist Calvin Dyck, pianist Ian Parker and horn player Oliver de Clerq. Dyck served 26 years as concertmaster of the Vancouver Island Symphony, holds a doctorate in violin performance from the University of Southern California and directs the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra, according to Pique Newsmagazine. Parker earned a master’s degree in music from the Juilliard School and is music director for the Vancouver Academy of Music Orchestra. De Clerq is associate principal horn with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

The program includes Brahms’ Horn Trio in E-flat major, Mozart’s Horn Quintet adapted for three musicians, a work by Jan Ladislav Dusik and César Franck’s Violin Sonata. The publication noted that the violin-horn-piano combination is rare, with the pianist handling harmonic and low-note responsibilities while violin and horn carry melodic lines.

Dyck told Pique Newsmagazine the group reviewed roughly 10 trios before selecting repertoire that engages both performers and audiences. The trio formed last fall and performs together for the first time in Whistler.
