WSMA hosts virtual polka lesson session for Re/sound project

Wsmamusic reported that the Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) and PBS Wisconsin will host a virtual session on November 18 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. The event features Arthur Gajewski, a curriculum writer for the Re/sound: Songs of Wisconsin project, who will share insight, lesson ideas, and additional resources regarding this year’s new lesson on polka.

Gajewski serves as the director of bands at Freedom High School in Freedom, Wisconsin. He earned his bachelor’s degree in instrumental music education from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 2019 and completed his master’s degree at the same institution in 2025. His master’s thesis focused on polka musicians’ perceptions of formal music education. Additionally, Gajewski has been an active polka musician in Northeastern and Central Wisconsin for the past 13 years.

The upcoming virtual gathering invites participants to share their own ideas and resources while learning together about cultures from the state. Hosted by WSMA, the session provides a forum for educators to engage with the new curriculum content directly from the project writer.
