Carnegie Hall will bring together about 200 of the best teen musicians this summer to work and train as The National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA) and NYO2.

NYO2 is a new group comprised of musicians, ages 14 to 17, that launched last year to attract students from areas that are usually underserved or underrepresented in the field of classical music. All together, the musicians in both ensembles represent 40 states and Puerto Rico. Both programs are free and start on July 1.

Both the NYO-USA and NYO2 programs offer a three-week training residency at Purchase College (SUNY) and will perform on July 19, then later in Philadelphia, New York, and abroad. NYO-USA in particular will perform its first-ever tour to Latin America, which begins on July 24.

“We are very excited to bring the musicians of NYO-USA and NYO2 together again for another extraordinary summer of music-making,” said Clive Gillinson, Carnegie Hall’s executive and artistic director. “We formed these two ensembles to shine a spotlight on the great depth of musical talent found across the United States, providing a unique opportunity for the finest young players to train and perform at the highest level, while also serving as cultural ambassadors for their country overseas and making meaningful connections with people around the world. We invite everyone to be inspired by these musicians’ exceptional playing, their spirit of learning and discovery, and their commitment to making a difference through music, no matter where they may go.”
