Please join the Charleston Gaillard Education and Community Program in partnership with Charleston Jazz Academy for an exciting one week opportunity with Grammy award-winning artist and local jazz legend, Charlton Singleton.

Spend a week immersed in jazz culture and jazz music with eight esteemed jazz educators. Improve your technique and challenge yourself with the incorporation of jazz music into your repertoire. On Friday, June 25 at 3pm, friends and family are invited to attend the final Big Band performance in the Martha and John M. Rivers Performance Hall at the Charleston Gaillard Center. Plus, you will have access to our jazz education opportunities throughout the 21-22 season with master classes, open sound checks, and tickets to two of our evening performances. Camp will be held in the second floor Salons at the Charleston Gaillard Center, 95 Calhoun St, Charleston, SC 29401.

JUNE 21-25, 2021

$325 Camp Registration

For more information go to www.gaillardcenter.org

Join us this summer for a one-week jazz combo camp July 12-16, 2021 led by Charleston Jazz Orchestra member Gavin Smith. For students grade 7 and up.

A 5-day workshop where students learn improvisational skills by playing in a jazz combo with similarly skilled peers. The workshop consists of 5 two-hour combo sessions, basic jazz theory classes and one evening concert. Additionally, each student receives one additional 45-minute private or small-group (sectional) instructional session focused on her/his instrument.

Musicians entering grades 7 +, who can read music, and who want to advance their playing and improvisational skills are welcome to register. The standard jazz combo consists of piano, bass, guitar, drums and one or two “horns” (sax, trumpet, trombone, etc.) but there are no restrictions on what instruments may participate. Workshop participants can play saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, flute, vibes, guitar, bass, piano, voice, and drums. One can improvise jazz on any instrument. We are always looking for pianists, bassists and drummers, since those instruments are always in demand in combos!
