The Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s (DSO) Paradise Jazz Series will continue with a one-night-only concert featuring Jason Moran and the Big Bandwagon in a multimedia celebration of Thelonious Monk.

Created in 2007, IN MY MIND: Monk at Town Hall, 1959 is a critically-acclaimed performance experience that investigates Monk’s famous recording Monk at Town Hall. The program examines Monk’s process of creating this seminal concert using audio of conversations with the pianist and his arranger Hal Overton.

The Big Bandwagon is: Jason Moran (piano), Tarus Mateen (bass), Eric McPherson (drums), Detroit native JD Allen (tenor sax), Ralph Alessi (trumpet), Immanuel Wilkins (alto sax), Frank Lacy (trombone), Bob Stewart (tuba), David Dempewolf (videographer), and Sascha Von Oertzen (audio engineer).

The concert takes place Friday, February 9 at 8 p.m. in Orchestra Hall, within Midtown Detroit’s Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center.
