The new Interkultur World Rankings for the Top 1,000 choirs have been updated to include the results of events from 2012.
Stellenbosch University Choir (conducted by André van der Merwe) from South Africa is now in first place, followed by an American choir, the University of Louisville Cardinal Singers (Kent Hatteberg), and the Guangdong Experimental Middle School Choir from China. The Austrian Lalá Vocalensemble and the Hungarian singers from Cantate are tied for fourth place.
The Norwegian group Cantus (led by Tove Ramlo-Ystad) made it to the top 10 for the first time, placing seventh. Cantus was also first in the “Female Choirs” category. Ensembles from South Africa, Hungary and China and were able to maintain their positions among the top 10.
