Assistant Marching Band Director

Position:

• Assistant Marching Band Director

Summary:

• NBHS seeks an Assistant Marching Band Director to lead and inspire our students and staff. Through strong leadership, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills – this candidate will foster a positive environment for all participants.

Responsibilities:

• Split responsibilities with other band director position

• Organize and lead the summer Marching Band Camp and Fall Season

• Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement

• Plan and advise all schedules, equipment, transportation, performance logistics, and all other matters pertaining to the Whaler Marching Band and all component groups

• Write and/or arrange/edit/direct/select field show including appropriate marching drills

• Secure all necessary equipment and materials for rehearsals and performances

• Maintain instruments and uniforms

• Monitor the performance of marching band staff members such as colorguard, percussion, etc.

• Manage the student leadership team

• Establish a positive rapport with students, families, and the band parent organization

• Participate in concerts, competitions, football games, parades, and other community events throughout the school year

• Work with other high school band directors and middle school band directors in New Bedford for collaborative opportunities for students

• Organize and monitor field trip forms, medical forms, and other needs for performances

• Flexible schedule including working holidays

• Must participate in med delegation training and provide completed certificate to Health Services and/or School Nurse for mandatory in person process review

• Such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Principal, Director of Fine Arts, or CDAM - Arts

Qualifications:

• Experience directing marching and concert bands

• Experience writing/arranging/directing field shows

• Works collaboratively with staff and students

• Works collaboratively with band parent organization

Terms of Employment:

• Reports to: New Bedford High School Principal, Director of Fine Arts, and CDAM - Arts

• Location: New Bedford High School

• Dates: Immediately - January 1, 2027

• Rate: $4,000
