Visiting Music Teacher - French Horn

St Dunstan's College

London, United Kingdom · Full Time · Music Education

Apply through the verified listing

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic French Horn Teacher who will inspire a genuine love of music and encourage high levels of motivation and acheivement among our students. The successful candidate will be an experienced teacher and performer, confident working with students from beginner level through to Grade 8 and beyond.

The successful applicant will be flexible, proactive and well organised, with excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive and productive relationships with young people across both our Junior and Senior Schools. They will be available to teach up to one full day per week, with scope for this to increase over time.

This is an exciting time to join the Music Department at St Dunstan’s College. Music sits at the heart of College life, with more than 550 individual music lessons taking place each week alongside a thriving programme of over 30 ensembles and other musical opportunities. Our team of 30 Visiting Music Teachers is supported by the Head of Instrumental Studies.

Students enjoy an ambitious and varied programme of performance opportunities. Recent highlights have included performances at the Royal Festival Hall, Cadogan Hall and St John’s Smith Square, as well as an international tour to the Czech Republic. Our annual Festival features 10 musical events across a two-week period, and our Concert Band was recently awarded Gold at the UK Schools Music Festival.

The development of a thriving horn teaching practice is supported by our annual Year 4 and Year 7 instrumental schemes, which provide opportunities to introduce new students to the instrument and encourage them to continue with individual lessons.

Applications Close: Monday 26 October 20262

Longlist Interviews (Online): 2 November 2026

Shortlist Interviews (onsite): 9 November 2026

Start Date: As soon as possible

Early applications are advised as the College reserves the right to appoint at any stage during the application process.

St Dunstan’s Education Group is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post. As this role involves ‘regulated activity’ with children the successful applicant will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure application. Employment will be conditional upon St Dunstan’s Education Group being satisfied with the result of the Enhanced DBS check and the outcome of all other checks.

St Dunstan’s Education Group will also carry out a check of the Children’s Barred List on the successful applicant. Applicants should be aware that it is unlawful for St Dunstan’s Education Group to employ anyone to work with children if they are barred from doing so, and it is a criminal offence for a person to apply to work with children if they are barred from doing so.

This role is also exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and St Dunstan’s Education Group is therefore permitted to ask shortlisted applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are ‘spent’ unless they are ‘protected’ under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

United Kingdom Location Report

By SBO+ Staff · Effective 2026-08-20

View this location on OpenStreetMap →

Opportunity and Market

United Kingdom has 3 linked active ArtistPro listings. National population supplies scale, but it does not establish city-level demand. [1]

Career Outlook

The national unemployment indicator provides broad context only. Occupation- and city-specific demand was unavailable from a validated jurisdictional dataset, so Career Opportunity and Career Safety scores are omitted. [3]

Compensation

GDP per capita is included solely as national economic context. It is not a salary-equivalency or purchasing-power calculation, and the listing’s currency, taxes, pension and contract terms must be verified. [2]

Housing and Cost of Living

Validated city-level housing and rent data were unavailable in this automated run. Candidates should use official or regulated local housing sources and avoid treating national economic indicators as rent estimates.

Commute

Validated city-level commute and transportation-cost data were unavailable. Confirm the exact worksite, transit availability and commuting rules with the employer before relocating.

Community Snapshot

United Kingdom national population and economic indicators provide country context; they do not support neighborhood-level claims about safety, culture or community fit. [1] [2]

Local Economy

The national unemployment and GDP-per-capita indicators describe the broader economy, not the city or employer. [3] [2]

Relocation Considerations

Work authorization, healthcare eligibility and tax obligations are jurisdiction-specific and can determine whether the role is viable. Use the official linked resources and confirm sponsorship directly with the employer. [4] [5] [6]

What I Wish I'd Known Before Taking the Job

A job offer does not itself prove visa eligibility, sponsorship, healthcare access or net take-home pay. Confirm all four before paying relocation costs. [4] [5] [6]

Methodology

This report uses World Bank national indicators and official jurisdictional resources. City-level figures and scores are omitted where authoritative data were not acquired.
