Last weekend’s Salute to America concerts at Greenfield Village, performed by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) and The United States Army Field Band Concert Band & Soldiers’ Chorus, were the most successful in the event’s 24-year history.

Over 26,000 guests visited historic Greenfield Village on the campus of the Henry Ford Museum for the four Independence Day concerts, which took place on Thu., Jun. 30, Fri., Jul. 1, Sat., Jul. 2, and Sun., Jul. 3. The DSO, led by conductor, actor, and Detroit native Damon Gupton, shared the stage with The United States Army Field Band Concert Band & Soldiers’ Chorus, led by conductor and commander Lieutenant Colonel Jim Keene. The program featured patriotic songs, Hollywood classics, and everyone’s favorite finale—Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, accompanied by real cannons and followed by fireworks.

The DSO would like to thank the Salute to America sponsors, Ford Motor Company and Bank of America, as well as the events’ official media sponsor, WWJ Newsradio. Additionally, the DSO extends its gratitude to The Henry Ford Museum, The United States Army Field Band Concert Band & Soldiers’ Chorus, 1st Michigan Colonial Fife and Drum Corps, the cannoneers of the historic Loomis Battery, Maestro Gupton, Lieutenant Colonel Keene, and the thousands of families who make Salute to America such a significant Independence Day tradition.
