UPDATE, March 13: The DSO has announced that all events throgh April 5 have been cancelled or rescheduled

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra today announced that this weekend’s performances of Carmina Burana in Orchestra Hall have been cancelled to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) following recommendations made Wednesday evening by the State of Michigan, Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

Those concerts were scheduled for Thursday, March 12; Friday, March 13; Saturday, March 14, and Sunday, March 15.

Anne Parsons, DSO president and CEO, said: “Our impulse as an orchestra is to proceed with performing music in times of crisis. However, in alignment with our Board of Directors and orchestra musicians, we believe we must follow the recommendations of public health officials. I am happy to share that beginning Friday we will be offering our on-demand archive of webcast performances for free at dso.org/live so that we can continue to share the gift of music. We hope that our audiences and supporters understand that health and safety remain our priority, and that we all do what we can to support one another during these unprecedented times.”

Ticket holders for this weekend or any other 2019-2020 season concert can exchange into upcoming Classical, PNC Pops, Paradise Jazz, William Davidson Neighborhood, or Young People’s Family Concerts. All exchange fees will be waived, and exchanges can be made through May 2020. Additionally, ticket holders can donate their tickets back to the DSO and receive a tax deduction for the total ticket value. To exchange or donate your tickets, please call the DSO Box Office from 9 am to 5 pm M-F by phone at 313-576-5111, email tickets@dso.org, or fax 313-576-5109. The DSO is unable to offer refunds for cancelled or rescheduled concerts.

In addition, the DSO announced that Civic Youth Ensemble (CYE) and Detroit Community Ensembles (DCE) rehearsals and performances being held in the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center are being suspended through Tuesday, March 17.
