D’Addario Woodwinds created a Rico “Hero Kit” as part of a direct mail campaign to announce the re-branding of Rico to Rico by D’Addario and give thanks to the teachers who help make and keep Rico reeds the world’s leading student reed. In the kit, which was made to look like a box of Rico reeds, included a two-reed reed guard, a tube of cork grease, a small pamphlet of stickers, and a custom reed-shaped USB drive containing all sorts of D’Addario Woodwinds teaching materials and guides along with a form to enter the sweepstakes.
The Sweepstakes began on July 15 and ended on September 1 with a winner chosen randomly on October 1. Anyone who received the Hero Kit was eligible to enter (no purchase necessary) to win the prize of $4,000 in the form of a check made payable to a winning school.
Chris Scialfa, product manager of D’Addario Woodwinds, presented a large check. In addition, each Hero Kit included a pamphlet with a unique serial code to enter through the D’AddarioPlayers Circle rewards program to redeem free points for even more reeds.
